These are the steps to take to determine to delay or stop practice or play:
RAIN: If it begins to rain, the Manager or Coach should evaluate the strength and direction of the storm and evaluate the playing field as it becomes more saturated with water. Stop the practice if the playing conditions become unsafe. In a game situation, the umpire has the ultimate decision to halt play. Please refer to the current “Green Book” for resume/reschedule of games. LIGHTNING:
If you HEAR, SEE, or FEEL a thunderstorm, suspend play immediately. Stay away from metal objects. Do not hold metal bats. Have players walk – not run – to their parent’s or designated driver’s car and await a decision on whether to continue play. Umpires will wait 20 minutes after the last seen bolt of lightning to determine if play can continue or not. It is the umpire’s call on when to start the game.
